What to Expect

At this time, counseling appointments are available Monday through Thursday. Times are determined by recipient need and schedule. Most counseling sessions take between Here’s what you can expect during that time:

Privacy and Care

Counseling sessions are held in strict confidence.  It is the client, not the counselor, who determines whether information may be released to persons outside Rejoice!, and only then with a release signed by the client.  Exceptions to this rule: state law mandates that there is no confidentiality where child abuse or abuse of a developmentally disabled adult has occurred within the last seven years.  The counselor may also be required to break confidentiality in life-threatening situations where the client poses a clear and present danger to self or others or is unable to provide minimum life-sustaining self-care.

Counseling approach

Habits are not developed overnight, and new habits will take time to develop. In most cases, we ask recipients to commit to consistent counseling sessions for a minimum of three or four months. During counseling  will encourage you in your successes and exhort you to think and behave in a way that pleases Jesus Christ.

Rejoice Community Church’s approach to counseling is Biblical counseling model. The church believes that the Bible provides the foundation for life; love God and serve others. Based upon this groundwork, we seeks to align clients’ beliefs, attitudes, thoughts, emotions, and words with biblical principles.

We believe that the Bible provides thorough guidance and instruction for faith and life. Therefore, our counseling is based on scriptural principles rather than those of  psychology or psychiatry. Neither the pastoral nor the lay counselors of this church are trained or licensed as psychotherapists or mental health professionals, nor should they be expected to follow the methods of such specialists.

Homework Assignments

During counseling  homework will be assigned to take home between your weekly counseling sessions. The assignments are meant to encourage lasting change.

Pastoral Counseling

When serving as counselors within this church, however, we do not provide the same kind of professional counseling and services that they do in their professional capacities. Therefore, if you have significant mental health, legal, financial, medical, or other technical questions, you should seek counsel from an independent professional. Our pastoral will be happy to cooperate with such advisers and help you to consider their counsel in the light of relevant scriptural principles.

The Pastoral counseling do not possess professional licenses or certifications issued by the State of Iowa for the practice of professional counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work specialties. Referral options to outside professional providers are available upon request and given when counseling issues are beyond the comfort and or ability level of Rejoice! Pastoral Counselor.
